 Founders' Tip Hold Insignia Founders' Tip Hold lies near the southern end of the Founders' Tip Peninsula, so named for the fact that it was the first place on the Western Continent to actually house holders. At first the place was used as a base of operations for fishermen working on the waters nearby; an upwelling of nutrients in a collision point of warm and cold sea currents ensured plentiful fishing grounds. As the pressure of population grew in the Northern Holds, some intrepid fishercraft families decided to move to the new Continent. Founders' Tip Hold was founded in Turn 32 of the Present Pass. The few natural caves in the area were too small for the growing population, and a quarry was opened nearby to provide building material for Threadproof houses. In addition to the fish and the stone from its quarry, Founders' Tip is known for producing surprisingly fine sisal-like fiber from the hardy dune grasses that adorn the beaches wherever there is enough ground soil to provide some nutrients for their roots. As the newest Hold in the area, Ithaca Hold, is still struggling to find its own niche and has not reached its full potential in agricultural output, the fishers at Founders' Tip provide much of the food necessary to support Ithaca Weyr. Recently some dolphineers have moved to Founders' Tip to reinforce the collaboration between the seacrafters and the local dolphin pods. The dolphineers' building is being slowly built at the harbor.
