 Ithaca Weyr Insignia The largely unsettled Western Continent was originally protected by High Reaches Weyr. As Western settlers eventually became more plentiful, a couple of High Reaches wings relocated to Western, and Ithaca Weyr was officially founded on the first day of the seventh month of T35PP. A large crater formed by an ancient meteor provided the perfect home for the Weyr. Natural terraces formed by the impact provided perfect ledges for the dragons to share, and many individual weyrs were soon formed with the help of blasting powder and the labor of Ithaca's new inhabitants. Natural, underground heat is used to warm up the lower tier weyrs and braziers are used for the upper tiers to keep the humans warm. The river located on the East side of the Weyr once flowed directly into the crater, but a 'quake some turns ago re-routed the river's path, forming a natural canyon and making the Weyr accessible to non-dragonriders. The water now cascades onto the crater floor, creating the Weyr Lake. Mountains formed during impact provide perfect shells for the Main Weyr Complex and the Weyrling Barracks.
