Journeywoman Aoife

Name: Aoife
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Rank/Craft: Journeywoman Metalsmith
Residence: Ithaca Weyr

Description: Standing nearly six feet tall with a very lithe build, Aoife
has both the blessing and curse of slenderness. The blessing being she's one
of those hated people who can eat about what she likes and not worry too
much about gaining weight, something that is difficult for her to do. On the
other hand, there is the curse of eating disorder whispers and a near lack
of curves. Her figure can seem almost androgynous at times and people
constantly ask Aoi, as she is more commonly called, if she's eaten or wants
more food, something that is a major annoyance to the young woman given that
she has a very healthy appetite. As a young girl Aoife was often compared to
a rail but her Turns in the Smithcraft have added muscle to her thin build
and she can be a little more strong than expected.

Her hair is long, an elbow-length dark brown, roughly the color of
untouched klah and exceedingly straight. She often will braid it and has
eyebrow length bangs. Everything about Aoi is slender and her face is no
different, oval in shape with a somewhat long, slim nose, high cheekbones
and arching near black eyebrows. Her olive toned skin suits her dark hair,
creating a somewhat startling contrast to her large dark blue eyes.

Aoi tends to gain attention because of the proud way she carries herself.
A bit of klutz, she manages to somehow seem graceful even when falling on
her face, something that can probably be attributed to the length of her
limbs, a feature that she has finally grown into after a very gawky
childhood. Typically Aoife can be found wearing dark pants and shirts in
darker colors, particularly red and blue. She tends to prefer sandals or
bare feet to boots and will wear the former until she's courting frostbite.
Aoi is not particularly fond of skirts, dresses or jewelry, although she
does wear rings on occasion and has both ears pierced.

Personality: Aoife is a somewhat...odd child. Or at least that's what her
friends tell her. A usually friendly person, she is at the same time
somewhat reserved with those she doesn't know well and it is difficult to
label her as either introvert or extrovert as she has definite qualities of
both. She enjoys being around people and has an innate friendly nature that
allows her to make friends easily. And yet, she often has to take large
amounts of time to be alone and simply think about things.

One thing that people tend to notice about Aoi immediately is her sense
of humor. Dark, sarcastic and quite often a bit morbid, Aoife is a cynic to
her core but not a pessimist. A fairly easygoing and very patient person, it
takes a lot to rouse her temper and typically has a good outlook on life. Or
at least she did. Of late she's been more cynical than usual, more
distrustful (for an already wary person) and less likely to share her inner
thoughts to any but her closest friends.

A very intelligent person, most people take Aoife for a goody two shoes
that they can use for any projects or work needing to get done. Aoi tends
not to take kindly to that and although she will always get the work on her
end done, if the other person doesn't, she's not likely to care if they get
left behind. Lastly, Aoi has the tendency to challenge people in ways they'd
rather she didn't. Say something ignorant, downright idiotic or proud in her
presence, and she's likely to call you on it. She's not afraid to get her
hands dirty and is a highly competitive person. She's also an extremely loyal
friend. Once you have her trust and friendship, you have it until you do
something to betray her. Then, however, she's not real likely to deal well
with that, forgiving and forgetting is not one of her strong suits.

Background: Aoife was born to two crafters, both Healers, the first of two
children, both girls, at High Reaches Hold. Aoife and her sister Enye were a
bit too different to ever get be very close and her father struggled a bit
with depression, which had long run on that side of the family, but their
small family was fairly close and there were few problems for Aoife or Enye
as they grew to adolesence. When she was 12 Turns old, Aoife chose to
apprentice to a craft although to the disappointment of her parents, she
chose the Smithcraft. It was there that Aoife met Rhysiann, who was of the
same age. Starting as classmates the two quickly became fast friends and
near inseparable. At times more sisters than friends, they had a somewhat
interesting relationship, constantly making fun of the other for one thing
or another. This continued for five Turns, at which point both walked the
tables to become journeywomen. Here they chose different paths although did
not have to actually separate, with Aoife choosing to be a Metalsmith
and Rhysiann choosing the Glasssmith specialty.

A Turn later, Aoife met Alekren, a journeyman Harper also at High Reaches
Hold. They two were together for a Turn but at the end of that Turn, turned
into a nightmare for Aoife, finding out many things about Alekren she had
never known and that he hadn't wanted her to know. Add in a mother who had
to have been born /between/ and Aoife got a situation that made said place
sound exceedingly pleasant. Ignoring irritating comments that this happened
all the time in her age group, Aoife focused on her craft. A Turn later,
when Aoi turned 20, Rhysiann suggested a slight change of pace and given the
need for Smiths at the newly established Weyr in the Western Continent, they
had little trouble getting permission for the change. And a welcome one it
was for Aoife, not to mention a chance to get away from home, the place
she'd always been.
