Senior Journeyman Dragonhealer Hiortal

Name: Hiortal NPC/Free
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Rank/Craft: Senior Journeyman Dragonhealer
Residence: Ithaca Weyr

Description: Hiortal is a tall, willowy man. He tops 6 feet 4 inches when standing straight, but he has a habit of slouching, especially when dealing with people shorter than himself. His hair is black, but he often shaves his head to make dealing with numbweed, redwort and other substances easier. After moving to Ithaca Weyr, he let his hair grow to protect him somewhat from the winter's cold winds, but once the spring comes, he'll quite likely shave it again.

Personality: Diligent and empathic are good words to describe Hiortal. He believes in keeping good discipline among the dragonhealers themselves, but at the same time freely admits that when dragons and Thread are involved, chaos happens. And the dragons' needs always come before the healers'.

Background: Hiortal's family has been Weyrfolk for three generations already, him included, so helping out in the infirmary and with the wounded dragons came naturally to him. Standing for the eggs a couple of times and failing to Impress took nothing away from his interest in working with dragonkind, and through persistence unusual for teenagers, Hiortal finally won the resident Dragonhealer's confidence, and was officially apprenticed at sixteen Turns of age. He walked the tables and attained Journeyman status only two Turns later.

Although his work with dragons has always come first in his life, Hiortal has managed to maintain a family on the sidelines as well. His wife is a couple of Turns younger than he is, and very understanding about his compassionate approach to the dragons. His eldest daughter, Lioran, has recently walked the tables herself, and is now working under Hiortal's command in the same Weyr.
