Apprentice Smith Loibl

Name: Loibl
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Rank/Craft: Apprentice Stonesmith
Residence: Ithaca Weyr

Description: At 5'10" tall, Loibl is a fine example of a young man who has benefited from the life at the Weyr, as well as from his current Craft. Much to his satisfaction, Loibl has put on some muscle especially on his arms and upper body, thanks to the vigorous life as an apprentice stonesmith in a Weyr still under construction. He has hazel eyes and light brown hair that he keeps cut short in rider-style, though he no longer wants to Impress, at least not actively.

Personality: Happy and bright most of the time, Loibl can and does have deep feelings, so he's not beyond having his heart broken. He is quite smart, but still young and not above playing pranks on his friends. He likes making new friends but would prefer just one weyrmate over numerous bedmates - he is Holdbred, deep down, after all.

Background: Born and raised by Minecrafter parents in a mountain hold beholden to Southern Weyr, Loibl proved to be something of a puzzle to his father. Loibl lost his mother in a cave-in, when he was just ten Turns old, and since his older brothers were all full-fledged Apprentice Miners, it fell on the youngest boy to take care of the little home hold. When he was older, his father also taught him to keep the accounts straight and generally study trading as well as the more theoretical side of Minecraft, probably hoping that the boy would prove to be of some use, even if he wouldn't be helping out in the mines.

Loibl did learn the ins and outs of ore-trading, but once, when he was sixteen Turns old and had accompanied his father to a Gather in Southern Hold where they were trying to negotiate a big trade agreement with the Smithcrafters in the area, one of Southern Weyr's dragons decided that the boy would do better in a Weyr and Searched him.

Loibl's father, Lubadil, let his son go only reluctantly, but there were no angry words, and Loibl promised that if he Impressed, he would go back to visit his home. And, besides, they had gotten a good deal with the Smiths.

After he failed to Impress, apprenticing to the Weyrsmith gave Loibl something meaningful to do while waiting for the next clutch of dragon eggs to harden and at least, he felt, like some of the training of his childhood could be put to good use in the Craft. Besides, he wouldn't have objected to developing a little more muscles either...

When the Western Continent was opened for all comers, Loibl agreed to move to Ithaca Weyr with his lover at the time. At the new Weyr he turned to Stonesmithing as that kind of skills are in great demand in the Weyr's building process. After having lived through tragedies both Weyr-wide and personal, Loibl still feels that he's better at home in Ithaca than he ever was in the minehold with his family. He has gained many new friends, some of them riders, some of them not - like the Journeyman Healer Esmun - and has especially warm relationships with H'lonard and C'ander, as well as the blue weyrling M'rah.
