Headwoman Marjaanah

Name: Marjaanah
Age: 53
Gender: Female
Rank/Craft: Headwoman
Residence: Ithaca Weyr

Description: Although Marjaanah is only fifty-three Turns old, her face is wrinkled and crinkled like that of a hundred-Turns-old, but her long, strong hair is still shiny black and likely to remain so until her death. She stands at only 5'4", but makes up for her diminutive status with a large personality.

Personality: A loud voice and free opinions make Marjaanah heard even in the most intense argument, whether the opponent wishes it or not. She is a loving woman, always welcoming the woeful and weak into her arms and under her wings, but she doesn't fear to face up the most enraged mountain-sized queen dragon, if it comes to that. Marjaanah can be stubborn and independent to a fault, but when she makes mistakes, she will apologize and make amends as needed.

Background: Marjaanah's maternal line has been Weyrfolk since the founding of the first Weyrs, or so the story goes, but little is known of most of their forefathers, since Marjaanah, like most women in her family, rarely care to even count the men taken to their beds. However, of the six surviving children of her own, Marjaanah knows the fathers of a whopping four, which makes her something of an exception. She has, however, made up for the small count of her brood by fostering and caring for a great number of children, at least three times those of her own.

Treating the Weyrfolk and riders alike like a large, branching family, has always given Marjaanah some sort of informal status in the Lower Caverns of whichever Weyr she currently happens to inhabit, but at Ithaca she actually took over the Weyr management to such a degree, that the Founders decided she should be formally appointed as the Headwoman, too.

Having such a large family in both blood ties and fosters, is a boon in a new Weyr like this, since Marjaanah can be sure that when she gives an order, it is carried out too, because those unfortunate enough to ignore her, will soon find themselves across her knees with her strong hand warming up their behind, no matter who or how old they are. One approach fits all in Marjaanah's case.

Two of her sons, Ximiranah and Marokah have managed to Impress dragons and become Xi'rah and M'rah, but Marjaanah nevertheless requires them to join the family get-togethers as well as remember birthing-days and anniversaries of those who happen to have such. Family is everything to her, and she usually counts the whole Weyr as her family.
