Weyrlingmistress Lanaevia

Name: Lanaevia NPC/free
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Rank/Craft: Green Rider, Weyrlingmistress
Residence: Ithaca Weyr

Description: Lanaevia's [pronounced La-nev-ee-uh] layered, chin-length hair greatly resembles the color of dark mud. Her eyes are a light brown behind a pair of medium-sized spectacles. She has a button nose that points slightly upward, and a small mouth. The greenrider is smallish, standing only a meager Terran 5'1". She tends to hide the extensive threadscars on her left shoulder and knee underneath baggy clothing, and she walks with a slight, but noticeable, limp.

Personality: Aside from the times when Lanaevia is teaching, she usually doesn't speak unless spoken to. To many it appears as if the greenrider is shy, but that isn't the case. She has a bit of a preference for observing and listening to people. She has a remarkable ability to absorb information while appearing as if she isn't even listening at all. Because of this people have a tendency to go to her for advice.

The greenrider is kind by nature and often finds it difficult to turn down practically any type of request. She appears calm on the outside, but has a bad habit of worrying over everything. If she is ever angered, she quickly shrugs off the irritation and worries instead. She does know when to put her worries aside and concentrate on what is important, however. She has a deep sense of responsibility to her dragon, her Weyr, and the weyrlings in her care. .

Background: Lanaevia isn't disappointed in the least that her life was a rather boring one before she impressed. Born and raised in a small cothold near High Reaches Hold, she was the middle child of six other siblings. Being neither the oldest and the first to try everything, nor the youngest and the most fussed over, she was often left out. Her parents had no special plans for her, they were too busy trying to provide for their children. Lanaevia grew to prefer being left out; getting to sit back and observe.

Around the age of twelve, the girl began to take an interest in the craft of weaving and tailoring. Glad to have another set of hands to help mend old clothes and to make new ones, her parents didn't object in the least. Lanaevia especially took a liking to the art of embroidery and needle-point. She loved to stitch patterns onto sleeves, necklines, skirts, and anywhere else she could find on a garment. She enjoyed nothing more than to sit by an open window until Rukbat set, stitching and listening to the world go on around her. Unfortunately she had a tendency to keep working even after her light sources expired. The resulting eye strain led to the development of her near-sightedness.

Life continued on uneventfully, with Lanaevia preferring to observe it rather than become a part of it. She progressed past puberty and men never even looked her way, for most of them didn't even know she was there. Then, shortly after her seventeenth birthingday something happened that the girl never expected: A blue dragon visiting the cothold Searched her for the clutch hardening on the Sands of High Reaches Weyr. Whisked away to the Weyr, she was thrown into a whole new lifestyle.

The Hatching Day came and went, and Lanaevia was left standing alone. She wasn't as disappointed as she thought she would be, and was a little relieved to be returning back to the simple, if boring, life at her home hold. However, during the short time she had been a Candidate, curious eyes had discovered the girl's skill with the needle, and she quickly had many requests for custom tailoring. Too kind to turn them down, Lanaevia soon found herself in a new niche as the personal tailor of various dragonriders and weyrfolk alike.

Gradually the girl managed to disappear from common knowledge, with only the few for whom she performed tailoring work knowing her name. She was able to blend in so well, that she wasn't Searched again until two turns later at the age of nineteen. This time she _was_ noticed by someone: The little green dragonet Afiameth to be exact. Lanaevia had been taken completely by surprise when the young green had made straight for her as soon as she was free of her shell.

A few turns later, while visiting High Reaches Hold, Lanaevia Searched a young boy. Intrigued by the small amount of his past that he had revealed to her, she went to great lengths to try and break past his barrier of shyness and get to know him. After the Hatching was over, and the boy had left the sands with his new, little, green lifemate, Lanaevia sought him out to congratulate him. Instead of finding an overjoyed, newly-bonded pair, she found the little blonde nearly in tears because his 'family' had left the Hatching the moment they had seen him Impress a green. Lanaevia comforted him, and that was the start of her friendship with Z'ter.

Five turns after that fateful meeting, the two parted ways with Z'ter transferring to a Weyr on the Western continent. Lanaevia was the only person who knew his reason behind the move, and understood completely, even if she was saddened that he was going to be so far away.

Only a few short sevendays after Z'ter's departure, Lanaevia was involved in a severe accident while fighting Thread. Afiameth's head was hit and she lost part of her left eye. Lanaevia's left side was extensively scored and her arm and leg were both rendered nearly useless. Months passed before she was even able to walk again. She slowly built her strength back up, and is now able to walk with a slight limp. Her arm, however, would never be the same.

Unable to bear the thought of being useless, Lanaevia began to look for other options almost as quickly as she began re-learning to walk. Deciding that she didn't wish to live anywhere other than a Weyr, she turned down the idea of being a watchrider. After months of recovery she got word of open positions for Weyrlingmasters at a familiar-sounding Weyr on the Western Continent and quickly applied for the job.

Dragon's Name: Afiameth
Color: Green
Age: 11
Age of Rider at Impression: 19

Description: Afiameth is on the smaller side for a green, appearing almost dainty. She is a dark forest green in color, lightening gradually at her muzzle and her tail-tip. One side of her head is decorated with threadscars and she is missing a portion of her left eye, leaving her partially blind.

Personality: Unlike her rider, Afiameth doesn't mind talking at all. She isn't a chatterbox, but she doesn't seem to share Lanaevia's 'listen only' policy. Also unlike Lanaevia, the green doesn't worry about a thing. She is rarely cranky or moody, and tends to have a rather mild temper even when she is proddy. Her small disability don't seem to bother her, and she is quite happy to spend her time with the young dragons.
